Adept is built to be privacy-friendly. We collect the minimum amount of data needed to run the service, we never sell it, and we never use it for advertising or marketing. This policy explains exactly what we store and why.
What we collect
If you create an account, we store:
- Your email address: used only to sign you in and to send account-related emails such as password resets. It is never shared or used for marketing.
- Your password: stored only as a cryptographic hash. We cannot see your actual password.
- Your Google account ID: only if you choose to sign in with Google. We receive your email address and account identifier from Google; nothing else.
- Passkeys: if you add a passkey, we store only its public key. Biometric data never leaves your device.
- Learning progress: which videos you have completed and where you left off, so you can continue across devices.
If you use Adept without an account, your learning progress is stored only in your browser's local storage. It stays on your device and is never sent to us.
What we don't do
- No third-party analytics or tracking scripts.
- No advertising networks or cross-site tracking.
- No selling or sharing of your personal data.
- No marketing emails or newsletters.
- No profiling of your viewing habits.
Cookies and local storage
We use a single encrypted session cookie to keep you signed in. That's it. We set no analytics or third-party cookies. Your browser's local storage holds your learning progress and preferences (such as your color scheme choice).
Emails we send
We only send emails you explicitly trigger: password resets and account deletion confirmations. Nothing else.
Sponsored content
Some courses may display clearly marked sponsored recommendations. We count how often a sponsored card is shown or clicked in aggregate, per course. These counts are never linked to your account, identity, or any personal identifier.
Third-party services
- Cloudflare: hosts our application and stores our data. Like most hosting providers, Cloudflare processes standard request logs (such as IP addresses) that we use solely for operating and securing the service.
- YouTube: courses are built from public YouTube playlists, and videos play through YouTube's embedded player. When you watch a video, YouTube (Google) may collect data as described in Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google Sign-In: only if you choose to use it, as described above.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time from the Settings page. After you confirm via email, your account and all associated progress data are permanently deleted. Progress stored in your browser can be cleared through your browser settings.
Your rights
You can request access to, correction of, a copy of, or deletion of your personal data at any time. If you are in the European Economic Area, you also have the right to object to or restrict processing and to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Security
Passwords are stored only as salted hashes, sessions use encrypted cookies, and we support passkeys for phishing-resistant sign-in. All traffic is encrypted in transit.
Children
Adept is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update this page and the date above. We will never quietly weaken the privacy commitments described here.
